Resident says NAPD officer ‘went above and beyond’

NEW ALBANY —

Rick Denny is more than a police officer in the eyes of Fayth Breeding and her friend. He is their knight in shining armor.

Breeding was giving her friend a ride to the doctor’s office last week. She said her friend was “really sick and kept passing out.” So she decided to turn on her flashing lights as he drove down State Street en route to the Professional Arts Building in New Albany.

Denny, a captain with the New Albany Police Department, was in front of Breeding’s vehicle and saw the flashing lights in his rear view mirror. He said he pulled over and got behind Breeding’s vehicle. He eventually activated his lights and pulled her over.

“She wasn’t breaking any laws. I just wanted to make sure she was OK,” Denny said.

When he found out her friend was sick, he continued to follow the two to the doctor’s office. Breeding said Denny then got a wheelchair and escorted her friend to the office.

“He went above and beyond. He stood by her side and pushed her to the doctor’s office,” Breeding said. “He just seemed like a really nice guy.”

Denny appreciates the nice comments, but said it’s all in a day’s work.

“I didn’t do anything that any other officer wouldn’t have done,” Denny said. “She was trying to get her friend out of the car so I just assisted her and took her on up.”

But Breeding said the compassion Denny showed needs to be shared.

“People don’t hear enough good things about police officers,” she said. “Most of them go above and beyond. He was great.”
