Two arrested for vehicle thefts, drug possession in New Albany

Arrests made at New Albany restaurant

NEW ALBANY — A 25-year-old woman was arrested late last week after she was found at a New Albany fast-food restaurant in a stolen vehicle with her daughter and more than 50 prescription pills, police reported.

Ashley Brown, 25, Accrusia Avenue in Clarksville, was approach by New Albany Police Department officers, who were called to Rally’s restaurant on Vincennes Street on Saturday in reference to two adults “passed out in a vehicle.”

The officer reported being notified that there was small child awake in the back of the Mercury Mountaineer.

Brown’s boyfriend, Steven Bezy, 31, Jeffersonville, also was in the automobile.

The officer arrived in an unmarked vehicle and observed Brown, Bezy and the child for nearly five minutes before approaching the SUV.

He reported seeing a man, later identified as Bezy, who appeared to be sleeping in the passenger seat, and Brown move from the driver’s seat to lie in a rear seat with her daughter to watch a movie on a built-in monitor.

After the officer approached the vehicle, which had been determined as stolen, Brown initially reported that Bezy had picked her up in the vehicle, and was not aware that it had been stolen.

Several pill containers without labels were found in Brown’s purse, police reported. The pills included Hydrocodone, Clonazepam and Lithium. Brown told police that Bezy had given her the pills.

During their investigation, police determined the couple was responsible for several recent vehicle thefts.

According to the affidavit, Brown revealed the whereabouts of a stolen Jeep Cherokee and a PT Cruiser that was located in Louisville.

She told police she was with Bezy when he stole the Mountaineer from the driveway of a Georgetown home. The couple had stopped at the home and asked for directions, Brown reported, then watched the home until the resident left, at which time Bezy stole the vehicle.

The couple left the home driving the two stolen vehicles to Red Lobster in Clarksville, where they abandoned the Jeep Cherokee.

Brown has been charged in Floyd County Superior Court No. 3 with class 5 felony burglary, class 6 felony auto theft, class 6 felony unlawful possession or use of a precursor and misdemeanor theft and possession of a controlled substance.

Bezy has been charged in Floyd County Superior Court No. 1 with class 5 felony burglary, class 6 felony theft, class 6 felony auto theft, class 6 felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of controlled substance.
