Online meeting leads to kidnapping, armed robbery

Man held at gunpoint in his own vehicle

JEFFERSONVILLE — A Louisville man was arrested on a warrant Tuesday following claims he kidnapped and robbed a man he had meet on a dating website.

Quintin L. Best, 24, is accused of using a firearm to steal his new lover’s cologne, laptop computer and iPhone during the couple’s first meeting March 4 at a Jeffersonville motel.

The man who filed the report with the Jeffersonville Police Department claimed he first met Best online the day before the robbery, according to the probable cause affidavit. The man told police that after he and Best exchanged messages on the website, they agreed to meet the following day.

The man drove to pick up Best at a Kroger grocery in Louisville’s west end. The two then went to Motel 6 along Hospitality Way in Jeffersonville, which was rented in the man’s name.

After some time in the motel room, the man noticed Best promptly began to dress.

“At this time, [the man] had a feeling that something was wrong,” according to the affidavit.

He claims Best then displayed a semi-automatic and said, “I’m sorry I have to do this. I’ll shoot you right now if you don’t do what I say.”

Best then reportedly took the man’s property, and told him he wanted $300 from him.

According to the report, Best then escorted the man to own his vehicle.

“The suspect made [the man] sit in the front passenger seat while the vehicle was hijacked by the suspect with the intent to obtain ransom,” according the affidavit. “The suspect maintained pointing the gun at [the man’s] chest during the incident, holding the firearm in his right hand.”

Best, according to the affidavit, drove the vehicle back into Louisville’s west end and forced the man to withdraw $300 from an ATM on West Broadway.

After making a stop at a liquor store, the man told police, “[Best] finally pulled into an alley in the same area. [The man] was convinced [Best] was going to kill him, at that point. Instead, [Best] advised him not to look, and he ran in an unknown direction.”

The man then returned to Motel 6 and called JPD.

According to online court records, Best is being held under a $25,000 court-cash bond.

Online court records do not reflect an upcoming court appearance.
