Fire burns equipment in rural Clark County

CLARK COUNTY — As firefighters worked the scene at a large fire at D&D Mini Storage in Memphis, a second fire ignited about five miles away off Mountain Grove Road near Clark State Forest.

Monroe County Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief Doug Dunlevy said the fire occurred on a logging apparatus, as crews were working to clear downed trees left by the March 2012 tornadoes.

He said no one was injured during the incident, and that fire crews were able to quickly extinguish the blaze about 3 p.m. Dunlevy said firefighters had to traverse nearly two miles of well-used logging roads to reach the burning logging equipment.

He said the equipment is used to load cut timber onto logging trucks.
