Jeffersonville bank robber arrested

Man found in Louisville, admits to Your Community Bank robbery

JEFFERSONVILLE — The man who robbed a Jeffersonville Bank Monday was arrested in Louisville Wednesday night, police reported.

In just over 48 hours after the robbery, Benjamin Robert Boswell, 50, Louisville, was found about 8:45 p.m. in his vehicle at a Circle K in the 4300 block of Third Street and taken into custody.

Boswell was located by Louisville Metro Police Department’s VIPER unit, which made the arrest.

He later admitted to Jeffersonville Police Department detectives that he carried out the robbery at Your Community Bank on 10th Street, near Allison Lane.

JPD Detective Todd Hollis said within hours after surveillance footage was publicly released Monday, police began to receive tips, some of which claimed Boswell was the man in the bank’s high-resolution photos.

Hollis said police obtained a warrant for his arrest Tuesday and were able to identify a vehicle registered in his name.

Calls from the public to police confirmed that Boswell had been seen in Jeffersonville in the vehicle hours before the bank robbery.

Jeffersonville police notified surrounding agencies, including LMPD to be on the look out for Boswell and the vehicle.

“Metro Police is always easy for us to work with,” Hollis said. “They are a great partner, and their VIPER Unit is outstanding.”

He said Boswell’s arrest is a testament to the working relationships between area law enforcement agencies.

Boswell has been charged in Clark County Circuit Court No. 1 with class B felony robbery — defendant armed or bodily injury results to one other than defendant.

Although police reported early in the investigation that no weapon was brandished during the robbery, Hollis said Thursday that surveillance footage shows Boswell drawing a knife from a holster on his hip and raising it to the bank counter during the incident.

According to the Clark County jail, Boswell had not been extradited from Louisville by early Thursday afternoon, but he is expected be brought to the facility.

Boswell is being held under a $75,000 full cash bond.

Online court records do not reveal the date of his upcoming court appearance in Clark County.
