Police say teen’s assault report was false

JEFFERSONVILLE — A teenager who reported that she was sexually assaulted near her bus stop Monday morning made the story up, Clark County Sheriff Danny Rodden confirmed Friday afternoon.

“We followed up with some leads and things weren’t adding up,” he said. “We re-interviewed her and she came clean.”

The teen told police that a man pulled her into his white van and sexually assaulted her at about 7 a.m. Monday near Utica-Sellersburg and High Meadow Road as she walked from her home to the bus stop. The girl provided a description of the person she said assaulted her and told police he was driving a white panel van.

Rodden said the information gained in the interview with the teen will be passed along to attorneys for the state for possible charges against her.

“We’re just going to forward it off to the prosecutor and let him decide,” he said.
