Traffic stop leads to drug arrest of Pekin man

Prescription pills found on motorist

PEKIN — Indiana State Police arrested a Pekin man last week during a traffic stop after finding him in possession of pain pills wrapped in a paper towel.

The trooper stopped a vehicle driven by Gregory Terrill, 31, 12254 E. Casey Hollow Road, on Interstate 65, near Memphis on Feb. 21. The stop was made after the trooper noticed the tint of the vehicle’s windows appeared to be darker than the legal limit.

During the traffic stop, “I noticed Mr. Terrill hands were shaking and could see the pulse in his neck beating,” the trooper noted in an ISP report.

Terrill then exited the vehicle, at the trooper’s request. As the trooper patted down Terrill, he reported feeling a hard object in one of his pockets. When the trooper asked Terrill what the object was, he said it was Kleenexes, according to the report.

The trooper removed a cigarette lighter and a paper towel from Terrill’s pocket. Inside the paper towel, the trooper found four pink pills, identified as hydrocodone.

“Mr. Terrill stated that he had a valid prescription for them, but he left the prescription bottle at home,” according to the police report.

After Terrill was taken into custody, he told the trooper the pills were actually not his and that they were given to him by a co-worker.

Terrill has been charged with D felony possession of a controlled substance in Clark County Circuit Court No. 2. The charge carries with it a maximum sentence of three years in he Indiana Department of Correction.
