FLOYDS KNOBS — A pregnant woman and her boyfriend are listed in fair condition after a car crash in Floyds Knobs on Monday.

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Department said Jeremy Sims of Floyds Knobs and Laura Briscoe were sideswiped by David Hall of Floyds Knobs on Buck Creek Road.

Maj. Jeff Topping with the Floyd County Sheriff’s office said Hall was headed toward U.S. 150 in a black Honda at about 12:30 p.m. Some fishing poles he stowed in his front seat had shifted as he went around a curve.

When he tried to adjust them, Topping said Hall sideswiped Sims’ white Buick Regal, causing it to go off the road and into a tree.

Sims was transported to Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services in New Albany with a broken ankle and Briscoe was sent to the same hospital for observation.

Topping said even crashes like this show cell phones aren’t the only object keeping eyes off the road.

“You’ve got to be alert and attentive at all times,” Topping said. “Accidents are going to happen, but they’re usually caused by some kind of distraction.

Hospital officials said Briscoe was later sent to another hospital for continued observation. Sims was in the emergency room as of press time.
