Manhunt ongoing in Lanesville

Police find 300 pot plants while searching for suspect

LANESVILLE — Harrison County Sheriff’s officials and Lanesville police officers continue to search for a suspect after responding to a routine call that has resulted in police stumbling upon more than 300 marijuana plants, and discovering what is believed to be methamphetamine and cocaine.

Harrison County Sheriff’s Capt. Brad Shepherd said at about noon that the Lanesville Police Department had been dispatched to the 3300 block of Crandall Lanesville Road at 7:55 a.m. in reference to two males standing in the roadway.

One of the men, William Berkley, 36,  has been taken into custody. The second man has been identified by police, but he remains at large, and his name has not been released to the public.

Shepherd said after Lanesville police responded to the area both men took off running.

The officer began a foot pursuit, Milltown Police Department became involved, and Berkley was taken into custody.

As the search continued for the second man, police discovered a plot of more than 300 marijuana plants on Berkley’s property at 3341 Crandall Lanesville Road.

Shepherd said a search warrant was obtained to enter Berkley’s home to locate the second man.

While in the home, police found “remnants of methamphetamine product, more marijuana, cocaine and finished meth,” Shepherd said.

He clarified that what appears to be cocaine and methamphetamine, has yet to be tested and confirmed as the illegal substances.

Shepherd said officials were currently waiting for a second warrant for officers to again enter the home and seize the apparent drugs.
