Palmyra couple charged in theft, check fraud

Husband and wife face a combined 8 felony charges

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — A Harrison County husband and wife are incarcerated in Clark County after stealing a check for more than $600 from their employer and later cashing it at Sam’s Club in Clarksville, Indiana State Police reported.

David Haycraft, 48, and Vanessa Haycraft, 50, both of Palmyra, are each facing four felony charges from the alleged crimes following an investigation by Indiana State Police.

The investigation began Sept. 10 after the Haycrafts’ employer contacted ISP about the alleged theft of a check.

Following the investigation, arrest warrants for David and Vanessa Haycraft were issued Tuesday out of Clark County Circuit Court No. 4.

Later in the day, troopers arrested the couple as they were leaving their home.

Each of the Haycrafts have been charged with forgery and fraud on a financial institution, both class C felonies; check fraud and theft, both class D felonies; and false informing, a class B misdemeanor.

The couple were placed in the Michael L. Becher Adult Correctional Complex after their arrests and remained there, as of Friday afternoon, under $25,000 cash-only bonds.
