Person of interest identified in Clarksville fire

No name given by Clarksville officials

CLARKSVILLE — Clarksville police are looking for a man that is believed to have been the roommate of two men killed in a house fire last week.

According to newsgathering partner WAVE 3 News, the Clarksville Police Department confirmed Tuesday it had a person of interest in the case, but did not release a name because it is waiting for confirmation from U.S. Immigration Services.

An emergency call came into the fire department at about 5:30 a.m. last Wednesday, but fire crews had some difficulty immediately locating the fire.

Clarksville Fire Chief Tom Upton said the initial call was for visible smoke in the area, but firefighters were not able to locate the source of the smoke immediately. Crews were able to locate the fire at a home at 434 Randolph Ave. in Clarksville.

It wasn’t until firefighters began working the fire that they discovered the two bodies. Police later said an investigation was taking place at the scene.

Upton said at the time of the fire, the bulk of the damage was located near the front of the building by the kitchen and a bedroom. A cause of the fire has also not been released.

No arrests have been made and the identities of the two men killed in the fire have not been released by the Clark County Corner’s office because they have been unable to notify the next of kin.

Clarksville Police Chief Mark Palmer did confirm last week that the bodies found were those of two Hispanic males.
