Jeffersonville fire officials assessing truck damaged in weekend accident

No one was injured after fired truck slid off roadway

JEFFERSONVILLE — The Jeffersonville Fire Department is conducting an assessment of a fire truck damaged in response to a 911 call Saturday.

According to a news release issued by JFD Chief Eric Hedrick, no estimate of the damage is available at this time.

That damage occurred about 5 p.m. Saturday, when fire truck No. 45 was responding to a report of a lightning strike to a house and a possible house fire in the RainTree Ridge subdivision.

The accident occurred in the 3100 block of Charlestown Pike, just north of the entrance to Evergreen Circle and south of the intersection of Lindy Trail.

“While traveling northeast on Charlestown Pike, under heavy rain conditions, Truck No. 45 had the right front tire slide off the roadway,” according to the release. “The driver’s attempt to correct back onto the roadway was unsuccessful due to the loose, saturated ground and grade of the shoulder area.”

No other vehicle was involved in the accident, but the vehicle did strike a utility pole and  several small trees before coming to rest in a creek bed.

The three firefighters on the vehicle were taken to the Clark Memorial Hospital as a precaution, even though none of three claimed to have sustained any injuries, Hedrick reported.

“This is an unfortunate accident, but we are thankful that nobody from the public or the fire department were injured in the incident,” Hedrick said in the release.
