CHARLESTOWN — A fiery, three-vehicle collision near Charlestown State Park Tuesday afternoon killed a man and hospitalized four others, including a child.

Andrew Elliott, 29, Charlestown, died at the wreck scene, said Clark County Sheriff's Lt. Randy Burton, after colliding with two pick-up trucks traveling the opposite direction of Ind. 62 just west of Decker Lane at about 5 p.m.

Burton said Elliott “for unknown reasons” lost control of a Dodge Dakota, which crossed the roadway’s center line and first struck a Ford F-150 driven by David Bringham, 52, Clarksville. Both Elliott and Bringham were the only occupants in the vehicles.

Bringham was later taken to University of Louisville Hospital for “serious injuries,” Burton reported.

After colliding with Bringham's vehicle, the Dakota was met by a Chevrolet 2500 driven

by Dale Nevil and also occupied by a woman and a child, of Charlestown. All three occupants were taken to Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services for nonlife threatening injuries.

Burton said it was unclear if the vehicles driven by Nevil and Bringham made contact with one another during the accident.

Elliott was ejected from the Dakota, which came to a rest on top him and became engulfed in flames, Burton said.
