Clarksville pursuit ends in Louisville

Woman says she was forced into vehicle

CLARKSVILLE — The pursuit of a stolen vehicle early Friday morning began near Lewis and Clark Parkway in Clarksville and ended with a crash in Louisville.

A female passenger found in the vehicle by authorities said the driver, George A. Conley, 36, Louisville, had forced her into the car and refused to let her out.

Conley has been preliminarily charged with C felony criminal confinement; possession of a stolen vehicle, resisting law enforcement, and criminal recklessness, all class D felonies; battery to a law enforcement officer, a class A misdemeanor, and violation of protective order.

The pursuit began after a Clarksville police officer saw the vehicle speeding and driving in a reckless manner in the area of Lewis and Clark Parkway, according to the police report.

While following the vehicle, the officer discovered the vehicle was reported stolen.

The officer then turned on the patrol vehicle’s lights and sirens, but Conley began to increase his rate of speed and attempted to flee the area, police reported.

Several officers were involved in the chase, as Conley drove into Kentucky, where Louisville Metro Police Department officers also joined the pursuit.

As the vehicle approached the Fern Valley area, a Clarksville police officer used a PA system to order the vehicle to stop.

Conley did not cease, however, and instead rammed the vehicle the officer was driving.

After driving into the patrol car, Conley drove away, and a short time later lost control of the vehicle and wrecked.

He then attempted to run from the vehicle to evade arrest, but was caught by officers after a short foot chase.

Conley injured two officers in a brief fight before he was taken into custody.

When police located the woman in the vehicle, she told police Conley had said, “ ... that he would not be taken to jail by police, and he would kill her and himself by wrecking the vehicle,” according to the report.

Conley was taken into custody by LMPD, but he is expected to be extradited to Clark County to face charges.
