New Albany Smoothie King robbed

NEW ALBANY — An unknown man is wanted for the armed robbery of Smoothie King, 4212 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Friday morning.

Floyd County Sheriff’s Maj. Jeff Topping said authorities were contacted of the crime about 7:15 a.m. that resulted in no injuries or shots fired.

The suspect left the business on foot after leaving with an undisclosed amount of money.

The man brandished a silver, semi-automatic handgun during the robbery, Topping said.

The business’ owner Bob McIlvoy said that only one employee was working at the time of the robbery.

“He handed over a note to the employee that asked for the money in the cash register,” McIlvoy said.

McIlvoy said the man entered the business shortly after the employee had opened the store at 7 a.m.

Topping said the suspect was described as a black man about 5 feet 10 inches, with a medium build, and a blemish on his cheek, wearing a goatee. He was wearing dark pants and a dark jacket with a hood at the time of the robbery. He had long, thick dreadlocks that were nearly waist length. Topping said the long dreadlocks were possibly a wig worn to disguise the man’s identity.

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Department is asking the public to contact investigators at 812-948-5407 with any information of the crime or the suspect’s whereabouts.
