3 injured when van hits tree in New Albany

Driver flown to U of L Hospital

NEW ALBANY — Three people were taken to hospitals, the most seriously injured airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital, after a van hit a tree on the 1700 block of Klerner Lane in New Albany on Friday afternoon.

The preliminary investigation reveals that a silver 2012 Ford Econoline van, driven by Matthew Haynes, 20, Underwood, was traveling southeast on Klerner Lane and for unknown reasons the van left the roadway and collided into a tree, according to a release from CART — Combined Accident Reconstruction Team.  All occupants had to be extricated from the vehicle. The two passengers were transported to local hospitals for their non-life threatening injuries. Their names have not been released.

The crash remains under investigation, but alcohol and drugs are not believed to have contributed to the crash.

CART was formed in July 2007, by Floyd County Prosecutor Keith Henderson, to investigate all fatality crashes and those involving serious bodily injury that may result in criminal charges. CART team members have additional training in crash reconstruction and scene diagramming.
