The West Clark Community Schools board met in regular session Thursday night. During that meeting:
• Superintendent Monty Schneider acknowledged Cathy Ryan, assistant principal at Silver Creek Elementary and assistant theater director at Silver Creek High, for a grant she received. The $8,000 Lily Endowment Teacher Creativity grant will pay for her to go to New York to learn about professional costume shops. She will spend five days there, two more visiting the Kentucky Opera and another two days visiting Ball State University.
She told the board she hopes to learn how to organize, categorize and store costumes.
“We’re really hoping at the end of it to be a rental shop to bring some money into the theater department,” Ryan said. “It will be a good way to make some money instead of just letting the costumes sit in storage.”
• The board granted permission to buy the home at 342 U.S. 31 in Sellersburg. The corporation will pay $126,000 plus any possible closing costs.
• The board also approved four expenditures that were greater than $10,000.
The first was $14,851.50 to Simplex Grinnel for Silver Creek Elementary and High schools maintenance of their fire monitoring systems.
The next was $11,589 for a commercial copier from Kyocera Mita of America for the central office.
Their third was $13,312 to Iron Company for weight equipment for SCHS.
The final one was $14,931.80 for curriculum materials from Team Hope.
