Seventy-two children in the third-, fourth- and fifth-grade Excel program at Floyds Knobs Elementary School read a total of 549 books for the Battle of the Books program.
Teams battled all Friday for a winner from each grade level, then those three winning teams went on to a semifinal and then a final battle. The winning team, by one point, was the third-grade team Rocket Readers.
“It was impressive to see how well the kids answered the questions,” said Excel reading teacher Abby Coffman. “They have prepared throughout the school year by reading and practicing as teams. Their dedication really paid off today.”
