Car hits bus with NAHS students on board

By TARA HETTINGER

Two New Albany High School students suffered slight injuries after the school bus they were riding on was hit by a car, according to Dave Rarick, director of communications for New Albany-Floyd County Consolidated School Corp.

He said 13 students were on the bus going west on Wabash Avenue around 7 a.m. when a car ran a stop sign on Anderson Avenue and hit the rear of the bus.

Rarick said two of those students complained of slight injuries. They declined to go to the hospital and opted to go home.

Rarick said there was minimal damage to the bus.

Rarick said policy requires all bus drivers involved in an accident when the bus is towed to be tested for drugs and/or alcohol. However, he said those results are part of personnel records and won’t be released to the public. If a driver were to fail the test, Rarick said the driver would be suspended immediately pending an investigation and likely terminated.

Rarick also said it is part of policy to not release the driver’s name.
