A New Albany native and a former Indiana University Southeast professor are the two recipients of IUS’ 2008 Chancellor’s Medallion.

Jamey Aebersold, world-renowned saxophonist and jazz musician, and Claudia Crump, retired professor emerita of education at IUS and co-founder of the school’s Center for Cultural Resources, will be honored Nov. 15 at the 2008 Chancellor’s Medallion Dinner.

Aebersold, an Indiana University graduate, was inducted into the International Association of Jazz Educators Hall of Fame in 1989. He developed a series of Play-A-Long instructional book and CD sets.

Crump made Indiana her home in 1952 when she began her first teaching job in Charlestown. She then taught thousands of teachers at IUS for a quarter-century before retiring.

Crump works with Trail Heritage Foundation and the Indiana Lewis and Clark Foundation. She is a member of the New Albany Business Professional Women’s Organization and is the international component chair for the CHOICES Program, which is designed to support and motivate fifth-grade girls in the New Albany area.

The Chancellor’s Medallion is the highest honor presented by the chancellor at IUS. It is given to individuals who have rendered distinguished service to the university and to the community, have given their talents in the promotion of human welfare and community well-being and who serve as models for students and alumni of IUS.
