New officers take helm of Greater Clark board

Gilkey gives up president’s seat; Pavey takes over

JEFFERSONVILLE — For the first time in more than two years, Greater Clark County Schools’ board of trustees saw a change in guard at Tuesday’s meeting.

Christina Gilkey, who has held the position of board president since July, 2011, exchanged seats with Mark Pavey, previously the board vice president.

Gilkey said with the number of committees, early morning meetings and other responsibilities on top of her day job were some of the reasons she wanted to change her leadership position.

“It’s a lot of work, it’s a lot of responsibility, I mean it truly is,” Gilkey said. “You don’t know until you do it. But I have appreciated the opportunity to do it and I’ve done it welcomingly.”

Pavey said he looks forward to taking the helm and reminded board members that long with board reorganization comes new committee assignments.

But the most senior officer also relinquished his seat. Kevin Satterly, who held the position of secretary since July 2010, gave up his position to Jerry White, a board member who was appointed to the board in 2011.

Satterly said his exit from a leadership role on the board isn’t indicative of his intent to run next time around in the 2014 general election.

“There’s so much assigned to do and I just felt someone else could do it,” Satterly said. “Jerry asked if he could do it. This actually gives me more time to sit on other committees that I couldn’t do before. It’s actually going to commit me more.”

Along with Satterly in the next general election, Pavey and Nancy Kraft, board member, will also be up for re-election.
