Clarksville High School gets new principal

Dan Butler gets the job

CLARKSVILLE — With Brian Allred taking the helm at Renaissance Academy, a new principal at Clarksville High School was named at the district’s Tuesday board meeting.

Dan Butler, assistant principal at the school, will take the job for the coming school year. Jim Bemiss, board member, said he was happy to see Butler climb the ranks.

“We’re very glad to have you a candidate for this position. We look forward to you continuing to lead our high school in the proper direction.

Superintendent Kim Knott wasn’t at the meeting, but in a press release, she said Butler has had a positive effect on getting students into class consistently.

“As CHS assistant principal, Mr. Butler has been instrumental in implementing strategies that resulted in the highest student attendance rate over the past five years,” Knott said in the release. “He understands the vision of Clarksville High School and the school corporation, and I am proud to have him as our new principal of Clarksville High School.”

In the release, Butler said he’s excited about the job and continuing the school’s A grade from the state, but didn’t have much to say at the meeting.

“I’m ready to go [to work],” Butler said. “I’m a man of few words.”

Butler was approved by the board, 4-0. Mike Kane, board member, was absent.

• The board unanimously approved laptops for Renaissance Academy. Students will use Hewlett Packard Elitebook 840 G1 laptops. It was unclear at the meeting how many will be purchased, but the school’s enrollment will be capped at 100 students.
