School board receives New Tech proposal

Contract likely to be awarded at meeting Tuesday

CLARKSVILLE —

The Clarksville Community School Corporation’s board of trustees opened a proposal for the first phase of construction of the New Tech school at a special workshop Thursday.

The lone proposal for the work came from Jeffersonville-based ARC Construction Management LLC. The total amount budgeted for Phase 1 work on the New Tech project is $5.5 million, but ARC stated in its proposal that the cost could be reduced by as much as $500,000 through a process called Value Engineering. Value Engineering is a process in which engineering plans are analyzed to ensure that costs are kept low and functionality is maximized.

Dan Rawlins with InterDesign, an Indianapolis-based architectural firm, presented ARC’s proposal to the board. Rawlins gave the board assurances that the project would not come in over budget because of change orders.

“The price is the price,” said board attorney Marsha Bugalla.

There are numerous requirements that are yet to be determined in the proposal, including earthwork, asphalt and concrete paving, drainage and seage systems, electrical systems and landscaping. The individual details will be worked out during the course of the project, Rawlins explained.

The school board is likely to accept the proposal at its regular meeting Tuesday, subject to final negotiation of terms and conditions, board President Bill Wilson said. The contract will likely be approved in its final form in November, Rawlins said.
