FCHS Bagpiper Newspaper, Bartizan Yearbook win Hoosier Star awards

FLOYDS KNOBS — The Indiana High School Press Association state convention was held at Franklin College Oct. 17-18. Floyd Central’s newspaper, The Bagpiper, and Bartizan yearbook both won Hoosier Star awards, the highest honor for student publications in Indiana. This is the first time in Floyd Central history that both the newspaper and yearbook won in the same year.

Judging is done in several rounds by professional journalists and educators. All work is judged against work produced at other schools across the state.

The Bagpiper has won the Hoosier Star in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. The Bartizan has won the Hoosier Star in 2003 and 2013.

On Oct. 25, the Bagpiper and Bartizan were named Newspaper and Yearbook of the Year at the Southeastern Indiana Student Press Association conference at IU Southeast.

Jim Lang is the teacher sponsor of the Bagpiper newspaper and Karen Mayer-Sebastian is the teacher sponsor of the yearbook.
