Melin discusses Jeffersonville High School turmoil

Message, reassignment and the district’s handling explained




OCT. 18: James Sexton, principal at Jeffersonville High School, is “out of the office” according to a release from the district. Sexton later explains he’s been placed on paid administrative leave.

Oct. 19: District confirms Sexton’s leave.

Oct. 25: Sexton’s reassignment to Clark County Middle/High School announced, differences in management philosophies cited for the change.

Oct. 26: An interview with Andrew Melin, district superintendent, reveals that concerns were brought against Sexton, starting an investigation.

Sept. 14: Jeff High Assistant Principal David Milburn is cited for allegedly attempting to steal a Samsung Galaxy tablet computer from his third-shift job at Walmart in Louisville, a D class felony in Kentucky. The citation also says Milburn stole an iPad from the store and sold it on

Oct. 25: Milburn named as interim principal at Jeff High.

Oct. 29: A press conference at Greater Clark announces Milburn has been put on paid administrative leave after the charges against him were revealed. Julie Straight, assistant principal, named the new interim principal.
