'Smokey Joe’s' opens tonight at Jeff High

Students could go to international festival

JEFFERSONVILLE — A retro show with a little rock, soul and Grammy-winning chops opens tonight at Jeffersonville High School.

The Broadway production of “Smokey Joe’s Cafe” shows off the musical skills of a cast of 24. Without any dialogue, performers depict a coming-of-life tale completely through singing.

The show will have more than just the audience watching, though. Judges from the Educational Theater Association and the International Thespian Society will be scoring the production. If the cast scores highly in the adjudication, it could get an invitation to perform at the International Thespian Festival this summer.
