Clarksville, West Clark school boards keep incumbents

One newcomer in West Clark

CLARK COUNTY — The only contested seat in Clarksville Community Schools’ board of trustees was won by its incumbent and another incumbent kept his seat on the West Clark Community Schools’ board of trustees after Tuesday’s election.

James Bemiss, the seatholder for Clarksville’s district 1 seat, won with 1,011 votes, or 39.62 percent. Michael Sparkman came in with 796 votes, or 31.19 percent and Lynn Wilson got 745 votes, or 29.19 percent.

In West Clark Community Schools, Joe Basham won one of the district’s two at-large seats with 4,633 votes, or 28.26 percent.

Basham said he’s glad to continue working for the district.

“I thank the people that voted for me and whoever wins the other seat, I look forward to working with them so we can continue to move West Clark forward on the educational issues that our students need and our parents hope to see the system continue to improve even more,” Basham said.

Richard Graf won the other seat, coming in with 4,157 votes, or 25.26 percent.

Graf said he’s already got some ideas about what he’d like to see for the district.

“I’m just going to do what I can to support all the schools in the district,” Graf said. “We’ll probably get some football at the Henryville school, they’re wanting football pretty bad up there, I’ll probably help work on that. I’ll have to look into seeing about getting the test scores up, but I don’t know what all that’s going to involve, but I’ll see what we need to do.”

Robin Long came in with 3,699 votes, or 22.56 percent, Nick Ray had 2,043 votes, or 12.46 percent and Celia Adams Winters had 1,861 votes, or 11.35 percent.
