The Providence Pioneers put on a solid defensive performance in Thursday’s blowout win over Madison Shawe at the Larkin Center in pool play of the Henryville Tip-Off Tournament, 52-28.
“Our defense played well,” Pioneer coach Brad Burden said. “The kids played hard and we were getting it done defensively.”
Providence (2-0) pressed the entire game and with good ball pressure and solid lane shooting, the Pioneers made 25 steals in the run-away victory.
Providence freshman Bayley Wade had a knack for the ball as she came up with seven steals to lead the charge. Wade also added nine points, four rebounds and two assists.
Pioneer freshman Claire Rauck had a monster game, scoring 21 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to record a double-double. She also had three steals.
Rauck’s double-double came one game after she scored a school-record 33 points in Providence’s 78-47 victory over Crothersville on Tuesday in the Tip-Off Tourney.
The Pioneers’ Olivia Jenkins scored eight points while getting four steals and three assists.
Shawe’s Maddie Waller led her team in scoring with 12 points. She also added six rebounds and an assist. Megan Goebel scored four points and grabbed five rebounds for the Hilltoppers (0-2).
Providence will resume Tip-Off Tournament action tonight as it hosts Christian Academy.
