Darryl Baker scored 17 of his game-high 24 points as Jeffersonville advanced to the second round of the Bob Wettig Tournament in Richmond with a 78-43 victory over Indianapolis Metropolitan on Thursday.

Jeff jumped out to a 27-10 lead after one quarter behind the performance of Baker, who had five dunks in the win.

Drew Ellis added 16 points and nine boards for the Red Devils, who will face Mount Lebanon, Pa., today at 5:30 p.m. in a quarterfinal matchup.

Ten different Jeff players scored in the win as Keenan Williams finished with eight and Kotrell White and Miles Harvey had six apiece.

The Devils expanded their lead to 43-20 at the half, then blew the game open with a 26-10 third quarter for a 69-30 advantage after three quarters.

DeAndre Hotier led Metropolitan with 18 points.

• Rock Creek falls to Jennings: Brad Hunt had 16 points and nine rebounds as Jennings County improved to 6-2 with a 59-42 victory over Rock Creek in the opening round at Richmond.

The Panthers jumped out to a 17-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and never trailed again. They built their advantage to 30-14 at the half.

“We got ousted in the first quarter,” Rock Creek coach Chris Brown said. “We just started out slow. We played very well in the second half. We attacked and got to the free throw line, but you can’t play two quarters of a ball game — or even just three against teams like the ones in this tournament. You have to play four quarters — and we’re just not doing it.”

Blake Joseph led Rock Creek with 10 points and Will Brown added nine in the loss.

Rock Creek (4-5) will face Portage at 9 a.m. today in the opening game of the consolation bracket at Richmond High School. Jennings advances in the winners bracket against defending Class 3A state champion Guerin Catholic.

• Highlanders fall to consolation bracket: In a game that was close all night, Floyd Central fell to Indianapolis Bishop Chatard 49-43 in the opening round at Richmond on Thursday.

The Highlanders move to the consolation bracket, where they will meet Indianapolis Tindley, who dropped its first game of the season to Richmond on Thursday, today at 1:30 p.m.

Floyd was even with the Trojans at 16-apiece at the end of one quarter and trailed just 26-25 at the half. Chatard’s advantage was 38-34 heading into the final period.

Delano Coffey led the Trojans with 21 points and Patrick Huffine added 13 points and eight boards for Chatard, which plays the host Red Devils tonight in one quarterfinal.
