CHARLESTOWN — Jeff/GRC earned a spot in Monday’s championship game with a 17-0 win over Clarksville.
Jeff has outscored its four opponents, 56-5. It has won three of the four games by the 10-run rule and its closest contest was a 12-1 win over Charlestown.
On Wednesday, Jeff/GRC pitcher Chandler Dale went the distance on the mound. He surrendered just one hit, a leadoff infield single by Clarksville’s Nate Knight. Dale struck out nine Clarksville batters and didn’t walk any.
Jeff/GRC’s Dalton Duley was the offensive star. He hit a home run and a double, scored three times and knocked in six runs. Nick Thompson also homered for Jeff.
Austin Hines and Drew Ellis each scored three times, and Josh Burke went 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs.
• HYR remains in hunt: Highlander Youth Recreation stayed in the 11-12 baseball race on Wednesday with an 11-7 win over Charlestown in the District V tournament.
Charlestown loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth inning with one out. But HYR pitcher Zach Fox got one Charlestown batter to ground out and struck out the final batter.
HYR is now 2-2. It must beat Silver Creek on Friday and hope New Albany loses to Silver Creek and Jeff/GRC to have a chance to advance.
13-14 baseball
• Jeff/GRC 10, Clarksville 0: Jeff/GRC had an 9-0 lead over Clarksville when the weather interrupted play on Tuesday night.
On Wednesday, Jeff finished off Clarksville via the 10-run rule by scoring a single run in the bottom of the fourth.
Jeff/GRC’s Aaron Wenger, who pitched the first three scoreless innings, reached base all three times he batted. He had a single, drew a walk and reached on an error. Teammate Alex Vogal pitched two perfect innings on Wednesday to secure the victory.
Michael Romans had a double and scored twice for Jeff.
Jeff will have a crucial game against New Albany at 8 p.m. on Thursday with the winner becoming a favorite to reach the championship game next Wednesday.
9-10 baseball
• Clarksville 17, Silver Creek 8: In a game that started on Tuesday, Clarksville finished off Silver Creek for a nine-run victory.
Clarksville led 7-2 when the lightning forced the game to be halted. When play resumed Wednesday, Silver Creek fought back to force an 8-8 tie before Clarksville scored nine runs over the final two innings.
The win was Clarksville’s first of the tournament. Silver Creek fell to 0-3.
