The addition of 6-foot-3 senior Andrea Rademacher continued to pay big dividends for the Borden volleyball team on Thursday.
Rademacher spiked 13 kills on 18 attempts to lead the host Braves past Clarksville, 25-14, 25-19, 25-21.
“Andrea Rademacher was big in the front row for us tonight,” Borden head coach D.J. Zipp said. “Our setters did well, and our passing was pretty good at times.”
The Braves’ Alexis Mitchell had 15 digs and served four aces, while teammates Bethany Burrier and Jordan Cook each had four aces.
“We played really well in spurts, but there are still some kinks that need to be addressed,” Zipp said. “Kelsey Evans came off the bench and gave a big boost.”
Borden will play in the Madison Invitational on Saturday. Clarksville will travel to Sellersburg on Saturday for the Silver Creek Invitational.
• Mustangs up record to 3-0: Callie Burgin’s sound all-around play helped host New Washington stay undefeated with a 25-19, 25-18, 25-19 win over Austin.
Burgin, a senior, spiked nine kills, made 5 1/2 blocks and served four aces. Teammate Lindsay Krohn had 12 kills, while the Mustangs’ Jenna Sexton made 11 digs. Also for New Wash (3-0), Kara Dieterlen dished out 10 assists.
“It was one of the best matches she has played,” Mustangs’ head coach Gary Graham said about Burgin. “I was impressed. It was a good showing on her part. It was our best play of the year and it had to be.”
New Wash will play in the Madison Invitational on Saturday.
• Pioneers rebound against Salem: After falling in three games to archrival Floyd Central on Tuesday, Providence bounced back to win at Salem, 25-18, 25-14, 25-8.
Lucy Knott paced the Pioneers with 11 service points, six kills and three blocks. Teammate Laura Der had five kills and four digs, while Providence’s Ashley Ricks spiked seven kills and made two blocks. Pioneer setter Elizabeth Endris distributed 27 assists.
“Tonight, we were able to get everyone a good bit of playing time,” Providence head coach Terri Purichia said. “I was pleased with the effort from our team. We served the ball very aggressively and our offense looked sharp.”
The Pioneers will play in the Yorktown Invitational on Saturday.
• Creek crushes Lanesville: Lindsey Maymon had 12 digs and 11 kills to lead Silver Creek past the host Eagles in three, 25-9, 25-15, 25-10.
Danielle Ramser passed for 27 assists, while Shirley Jones had six aces in the win for the Dragons (6-2).

The Dragons host Clarksville, Pekin Eastern and Scottsburg in the Silver Creek Invitational on Saturday.
BOYS’ TENNIS
• Red Devils surprise Jasper: For the first time in 15 years, Jeffersonville knocked off perennial power Jasper.
The Red Devils won two critical three-set matches to oust the host Wildcats, 3-2. In each match, Jeff rallied after losing the first set.
At No. 3 singles, Jeff senior Nathan Cross downed Sam Werne, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3. The Red Devil senior duo of Jeremy Chesher and Sam Burke beat Tanner Niehaus and Chris Campbell at No. 1 doubles, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.
Sophomore Patrick Elliott picked up Jeff’s third point, winning 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.
“It looked like a repeat of the last 15 years for a while. But for us to come back and win is incredible,” Red Devil head coach Mark Reilly said. “Nathan Cross got down 4-1 in the first set, but he fought hard to get back into the match and find a way to win the match.”
The Red Devils will host Seymour on Tuesday.
• Warriors sweep New Wash: Visiting Christian Academy of Indiana upped its record to 2-0 with a 5-0 victory over New Washington. It was the Mustangs’ season opener.
The most competitive match happened at No. 1 singles, where the Warriors’ Jacob Loveland downed Drake Krohn, 6-2, 7-6(7-5). Other singles wins for CAI were David Williams at No. 2 and Morgan Wilder at No. 3.

“CAI is a tough opponent for us to start the season out with. But to my team’s credit, they battled all afternoon,” Mustangs’ coach Wayne Davis said. “Right now, we’re just inexperienced at several spots. But that should change pretty quickly, as we get some matches under our belt and get our lineup figured out.”
CAI will host Silver Creek on Tuesday. New Wash hosts Shawe Memorial today.
• Pirates fall to Scottsburg: On Wednesday, host Charlestown lost its Mid-Southern Conference opener to Scottsburg, 3-2.
The Pirates’ Keifer Henderson won the lone three-set match, beating Phillip Richey at No. 2 singles 4-6, 6-4, 6-0. Matt Wyatt provided Charlestown’s other point, prevailing at three singles over Evan Comer 6-1, 6-4.
“Our singles guys played very well (Wednesday), with Keifer and Matt winning at two and three singles,” Pirates’ head coach Chris Ryan said. “Scottsburg has one of the area’s best one singles, and they swept the doubles to win the match.”
