WRESTLING: Jeff's Jolley-Little wins second national title

Earns invitations to elite camp, World Championships

AKRON, Ohio — Following his state finals appearance in the winter, Jeffersonville wrestler Gavan Jolley-Little won his second national championship at the Asics’s Cadet Fila World Team Trials at the University of Akron.

The championship was the first for him in Greco-Roman-style wrestling and he defeated wrestlers from Virginia, Wisconsin, California, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Iowa, Illinois and Ohio to take the crown.

In his first three matches, Jolley-Little won by a combined 17-0. In the championship, he defeated Zach Wood of Michigan 8-5 after being down 2-0 in the third period.

Jolley-Little also finished sixth in the freestyle division to earn All-American honors in both styles.

“I was proud of Gavan because he showed a big step in his growing as a person and as an athlete in pushing through adversity and injury to obtain his goals of double all-American in this tournament,” Jeffersonville head wrestling coach Danny Struck said. “Gavan is without a doubt the most nationally-decorated wrestler now in JHS history.”

Top finishers in the camp get an invitation to the “2020 future Olympian camp” that features 100 of the nation’s top wrestlers. Jolley-Little also earned a bid to the World Championships in Serbia in August.

Struck will coach the USA team in Serbia.
