H.S. ROUNDUP: New Albany girls win consolation game of North Central Invitational

Scott has 31 points, 16 boards in Silver Creek loss

INDIANAPOLIS — In the North Central Invitational consolation game on Saturday, the New Albany girls’ basketball team used a 17-point fourth quarter to rally back and top Brebeuf, 32-23.

“Lauren Camm sparked us in the fourth,” Bulldog coach Tammy Geron said. “She had eight [points] in the quarter and it really carried us.”

Both teams started slow. New Albany (3-7) scored just five points in the first and six in the second quarter. Brebeuf followed a solid first quarter of 10 points with just two points in the second and still found itself ahead at the half, 12-11.

Both teams scored four points in the third, giving the Braves the same one-point lead heading into the fourth 16-15.

In the fourth, the Bulldogs found their offensive rhythm. Camm got things going and scored eight of her team-high 10 points in the fourth. New Albany caught fire in the quarter and put up 17 points, while holding Brebeuf to seven.

Along with Camm, Brianne Nixon was big for New Albany, pulling down 10 rebounds to lead both teams in the category.

New Albany will be back in action next Friday as it visits Evansville Harrison.

WEST WASHINGTON DOMINATES HENRYVILLE

West Washington (7-2) took advantage of Henryville’s shooting woes on Saturday and beat the Hornets (6-6) in the Washington County Invitational consolation game at Henryville, 41-19.

“West Washington outworked us. We had open looks and missed. We didn’t handle that very well which affected us defensively,” said Hornet coach Josh Conrad. “We left shooters open around the 3-point line and they knocked those shots down.”
