ARCA, Kimmel coming back to Salem on Sept. 14

SALEM — The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards is heading home, or so it should feel anyway.

When the renowned stock car tour converges on Salem, it will mark the 94th appearance by ARCA at Salem Speedway since the series debuted on the historic half-mile oval in 1955. Over the years, no track has appeared on ARCA’s annual schedule more than Salem has.

The Kentuckiana Ford Dealers Fall Classic presented by Federated Car Care is set to go under the lights at Salem on Saturday, Sept. 14, starting at 7:15 p.m.

Clarksville native and local favorite Frank Kimmel has a couple extra reasons to put the hammer down on his No. 44 Ansell-Menards Toyota.

Kimmel is trying to surpass ARCA legend Iggy Katona as the series’ all-time wins leader, as each driver has 79 victories. Kimmel also is aiming for a record 10th ARCA win at Salem while chasing his 10th series title.

“There’s a lot on the line,” said Kimmel, the current ARCA Racing Series championship point leader. “Naturally, we want to win at home, and if we do, it puts us that much closer to the championship. The Ansell-Menards Toyota has been good everywhere, but you just don’t know when that next win will come. They’re too hard to come by to take anything for granted.”

Kimmel has already won three times in 2013 with victories at Talladega Superspeedway, Elko Speedway and Winchester Speedway. However, his last win at Salem was exactly five years ago.

“It’s been way too long [without winning at Salem],” Kimmel said. “Nothing would mean more to me than to get back to Victory Lane there. Salem’s always been very special because it’s home. We’ve got so much support there from family, friends, fans, you name it. Each victory is more special than the one before.”

Practice for the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA Fall Classic presented by Federated Car Care is scheduled to start at noon, with Lucas Oil Great American Stock qualifications at 3 p.m. ARCA qualifying presented will be at 4 p.m.

The Lucas Oil Great American Stocks will get the racing action started with the Federated Car Care 50 at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA Fall Classic at 7:15 p.m. will feature live timing and scoring of all on-track activity, as well as live audio for the race.

Advance tickets for the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA Fall Classic presented by Federated Car Care are available online at or by calling 812-883-6504 or 1-888-246-7223.
