H.S. ROUNDUP: Fern Creek walks off against Providence

Lanesville softball edges Jeff, 4-3

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — Providence suffered a crushing defeat Wednessday, falling to Fern Creek 3-2 in the Derby City Classic at Louisville Southern.

Trailing Fern Creek 2-1 in the top of the seventh the Pioneers were able to push across the tying run after a bases loaded single by Juston Betz.

The comeback was short-lived as the Tigers were able to answer with a run of their own in the bottom of the seventh.

Austin Dickey took the hill for Providence and tossed a solid five innings. He gave up just two runs — both unearned — on six hits, while striking out six.

Betz collected two hits for the Pioneers with a double and the game-tying single.
