IUS has 32 KIAC Scholar-Athletes

Thirty-two Indiana University Southeast student-athletes have been named Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Scholar-Athletes, the conference announced on Monday.

In order to be named a KIAC Scholar-Athlete, a student must be maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25. Freshmen are eligible for the award.

“I couldn’t be any happier to see so many of our student-athletes succeeding in the classroom,” IU Southeast athletic director Joe Glover said. “Student-athletes juggle very stringent schedules. It is a true testament to their individual efforts when they can successfully balance academics and athletics.”

The complete list of KIAC Scholar-Athletes are the following: Stephanie Bradshaw, Katherine Clark (Jeffersonville graduate), Elizabeth Roden, Mathias Brewers, Jade Detzer, Kaylyn Rodewig (Eastern graduate), Brad Walker, Alayna LaPaille, Justin Hurst, Evan Biesterveld, Jacob Holtz, Kristyn Maymon (Silver Creek), Meaghen Tompkins, Brookelyn Visker, Summer Sanders, Patrick Yochum, PJ Cockerell, Austin LaFollette, Britney Pinnick, Katelin Jelinek, Emily Knight (New Albany graduate), Sara Schum, Ashley Bunch, Maddie Ikerd, Bethany Sullivan, Darian Davenport, Brandon Smalling, Megan Sutherland, Lucas Harry, Shane Burke (Jeffersonville graduate), Katie Morrison, David Gibson.

Porter named IUS assistant coach

Brooke Porter has been hired as an assistant volleyball coach at Indiana University Southeast, Grenadiers’ volleyball coach Eric Brian announced on Monday.

Porter is a native of Louisville and attended Louisville Butler High School. She is a 2013 graduate of Union (Ky.) College. She was a libero/defensive specialist for the Bulldogs.

“I am excited to add Brooke to the coaching staff,” Brian said. “She had a tremendous career at Union and I know she is ready to help our team reach new heights.”

Porter finished her career at Union with 1,241 digs. She is the seventh player in Union history to record more than 1,000 career digs.

During her junior season in 2011, she led the Bulldogs with 606 digs. During her freshman year in 2009, she was a member of a Union squad that finished 29-5 and had the highest winning percentage in team history at 85.3 percent.

“I am excited to join the coaching staff at IU Southeast,” Porter said. “I cannot wait to start teaching and coaching the girls and to watch them improve.”

Porter previously coached the Horizon volleyball team in Corbin, Ky., in 2012.

She was named to the 2008 All-District 22 team as a senior at Butler.

Porter graduated from Union in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science degree in sports management and plans to pursue a master's degree in sports administration. She lives in Louisville.
