HS ROUNDUP: Jeff beats East for HHC tennis title

Floyd tops Seymour for third in HHC

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — The Jeffersonville boys’ tennis team took claim of the Hoosier Hill Conference championship Friday night by edging Columbus East 3-2 in the finals of the conference tournament.

As usual, the Red Devils were lead by the consistency of their doubles play.

Chase Kayrouz and Justin Padgett battled back from an early deficit, dropping their first set but rallied to take the last two, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-1. Jack Rielly and Sam Coward, who can almost be penciled in for a win every time they take the court, beat Columbus East’s Jo Jo and Sammy Woolwine in straight sets. Coward and Reilly lost just one game in the process, 6-1, 6-0.

Jeff won only one of the singles matches, but it all it needed to seal the championship. No.1 singles player Austin Hunt was the man to deliver that victory when he defeated Matt Suehne, 6-1, 6-2, to give the Red Devils the crown.

Eleventh-ranked Jeff inproved its overall record to 14-1 continuing to play winning tennis as they have all season.

Jeffersonville will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Scottsburg.
