H.S. CROSS COUNTRY: Floyd girls qualify for state meet

Borden’s Magallanes, Silver Creek’s Crouch, Henryville’s Greene also earn state bids

(Continued)

NASHVILLE —

Brittany Sharp was 39th and Maggie Shields 45th for the Dragons.

“We were a little disappointed in the finish for the girls,” Kingery said. “We wanted a top six but didn’t get it even though five out of our top seven girls ran either personal- or season-best times. Brittany Sharp  ran her last race as a Dragon and she will be sorely missed. She led a team that won seven invitationals, a conference and a sectional [this year]. Not bad for one season.”

Henryville freshman Cia Greene was 23rd overall and ninth among runners not advancing with their team to earn a spot at the state meet.

A year ago as a freshman, Kotowski was the only area player to make the state meet. This year, including the seven Highlanders, nine area runners will run at Terre Haute.

New Albany junior Rose Kaforski finished 40th, New Washington freshman Olivia Graebe was 66th and Charlestown junior Whitney Andrews crossed the line in 73rd.

Borden sophomore Julien Magallanes was the only area boy to qualify for state by finishing 15th at the semistate. Magallanes’ Braves finished 11th as a team.

Floyd Central finished ninth, led by juniors Luke Uhl in 40th and Alec Heitz in 42nd.

Silver Creek junior Tanner Coots came in 42nd, Eastern junior Khalil McDaniel was 62nd, Henryville junior Jacob Hedrick finished 64th, Providence senior Lincoln Ottersbach placed 80th and senior teammate Spencer Mitchell was 88th, New Albany freshman Tim Baumgart placed 89th.
