HS ROUNDUP: Reich throws no-hitter

Pirates beat Eastern 7-0 in MSC action

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — Charlestown’s Drew Reich threw his second career no-hitter as the Pirates defeated Eastern 7-0 Monday.

The Pirates are 10-6 overall and 5-2 in the Mid-Southern Conference following the victory.

“I'm very pleased with our team effort tonight,” Charlestown coach Ricky Romans said. “Drew was extremely sharp tonight and our defense played exceptionally well behind him. We did a nice job offensively to get some runs early and kept up our enthusiasm all night. All in all, I'm very proud of our guys tonight.”

Reich struck out 10 Musekteers to improve to 5-0 on the season. He also went 2-for-4 with an RBI with a double on offense.

Eastern, which goes to New Washington tonight, is now 9-9 overall and 2-5 in league play. Charlestown hosts rival Providence Wednesday.

    No. 1 — Maddie Ford-Madison Cunningham (L) d. Courtney Brown-Emily Mitchell 6-2, 6-0.

    No. 2 — Daneille Summitt-Brittany Moffett (C) d. Abby Wright-Merritt Johnson 6-0, 6-4.

    Notes: This was the second time the two teams met and they could play again in the New Albany Sectional. CAI sweep the two matchups.
