H.S. ROUNDUP: Floyd, Welch defeat sectional foes

Highlanders win quad meet at Covered Bridge

SELLERSBURG — In a prelude to Monday’s Providence Sectional at Covered Bridge Golf Club, four sectional teams competed in a quadrangular meet at Covered Bridge on Thursday.

No. 15 Floyd Central, which has won 11 consecutive sectional championships, won the four-way meet with a team score of 295. Eighth-ranked Corydon Central finished second with a 301. Providence was third with a 310 and New Albany ended fourth with a 332.

The Highlanders’ Connor Welch earned medalist honors with a 4-under-par 68. Teammate Jack Sparrow posted the second-lowest score in the meet with an even-par 72. Also for Floyd Central, Billy Sleight shot a 77, Clayton Crum carded a 78 and David Shepard fired a 79.

Kevin Crone led the Pioneers as he finished in a two-way tie for third in the individual standings with a 1-over 73. Teammate Mitchell Allender fired a 76, while Providence sophomore Max Leist had a 77.

Leading the Bulldogs were Addisson Greenwell and Kunal Bhanushali, each shooting an 81.

    Corydon Central: Wiseman 74, M. Frederick 76, Crawford 73, T. Wiseman 78, Coleman 85.

    Providence: Kevin Crone 73, Mitchell Allender 76, Max Leist 77, Erich Day 86, Austin Happel 84.

    New Albany: Addisson Greenwell 81, Cameron Walter 88, Jonny Smith 82, Kunal Bhanushali 81, Ethan Hunter 93.

    Medalist: Luke Davidson (H) 36.

    Henryville: Davidson 36, Mason Edwards 45, Charlie Lefebvre 48, Bailey Reister 48.

    Trinity Lutheran: Parker Criswell 40, Cory Stuckwisch 47, Clayton Terry 48, Chad Stuckwisch 48, Clayton Pottschmidt 51, Skylan Stahl 52.

    Salem: Devon Wynn 49, Jason Zink 52, Devin Boutelle 53, Adam Fisher 57, Joe Garloch 58, Kaegan Magner 65.

    Meet notes: After making bogeys on the third and fifth holes, Davidson sank birdies at No. 6 and No. 7 to shoot even par.

    Henryville head coach Robin Embry: “Luke played very well and carded a personal-best today. Mason wasn’t at his best. However, he posted a decent score. Charlie and Bailey played fine except for a couple of holes. I’m pleased with the improvement we’ve made this season. We’re playing with confidence and hopefully we’ll play well at the sectional.”
