H.S. SOFTBALL: Hauber retiring as Clarksville coach

Veteran led Generals to eight sectional titles

CLARKSVILLE — Legendary Clarksville softball coach Tim Hauber announced his retirement from coaching Thursday after 17 years as the Generals’ varsity coach.

Hauber said there were several factors in his decision. The biggest factor was family.

“There were a lot of things that contributed to the decision,” he said. “I know it’s a clichО when everyone says that family is the reason, but it’s true. I have five grandkids and all of them are starting to play sports. It would be selfish of me to keep going while they’re playing. It’s time for me.”

In his 17 years, Hauber led the Generals to a 315-172 record. His teams won sectional championships nine times — most recently in 2011 — and won six straight titles from 1999-2004.

His teams won regional crowns in 2002, 2004 and 2011. His 2002 and 2004 teams advanced to the state championship game. Clinton Prairie beat Clarksville 5-0 for the title in 2002 and the Generals dropped a 1-0 heartbreaker to Hanover Central two years later.

Hauber has coached softball a total of 38 years, including a few years on the Clarksville bench as an assistant before taking over as head coach.

The softball facility at Clarksville is named for Hauber.

“I’ve had a great time at Clarksville and Clarksville’s been really good to me,” he said.
