AUTO RACING: Will Kimmel to run five Nationwide races in ‘14

Sellersburg resident eighth in last year’s ARCA standings

CLARKSVILLE —  Clarksville-based Kimmel Racing announced on Tuesday that its ARCA Racing Series driver, Will Kimmel, will compete in five NASCAR Nationwide Series races for TriStar Motorsports, located in Mooresville, N.C., for the 2014 season.

Kimmel, a Sellersburg resident and Silver Creek High School graduate, will drive the No. 44 Toyota Camry for TriStar Motorsports. The car will have an associate sponsor in Ingersoll Rand, which is a global leader in air compressors, tools, fluid management and material handling equipment.

Kimmel’s first two Nationwide races will be at Phoenix International Raceway on Saturday, March 1 and Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway on Saturday, March 15. The other three races have yet to be determined.

“To say, I’m excited is an understatement,” Kimmel said in a statement. “I greatly appreciate the opportunity Ingersoll Rand and TriStar Motorsports have presented to me. I look forward to continuing the Kimmel family impression in racing [and] now in the NASCAR community.”

Kimmel made his Nationwide Series debut on July 9, 2011 at Kentucky Speedway, finishing 35th.

Kimmel placed eighth in last season’s ARCA point standings. He had three top-five finishes and eight top-10s. He is the nephew of 10-time ARCA champion and Clarksville native Frank Kimmel.
