JEFFERSONVILLE — Jeffersonville High School shortstop Drew Ellis made his college choice official on Monday at Jeff High.

The senior signed a national letter of intent to play baseball in the 2015 season at the University of Louisville. Ellis gave his verbal commitment to the Cardinals more than a year prior to his signing.

Last season, Ellis led the Red Devils in batting average (.471), on-base percentage (.591), runs scored (38), hits (42), home runs (four) and RBIs (26). At one point in 2013, he had a 15-game hitting streak, which was the third longest in school history.

Ellis’ statistics helped Jeff compile a 23-6 record and win the Hoosier Hills Conference Tournament, the Class 4A Bedford North Lawrence Sectional and the Class 4A Evansville Reitz Regional. The Red Devils reached the Class 4A Final Four, but lost to eventual state runner-up Indianapolis Cathedral in the semistate, 4-3.

Ellis has earned a spot on the All-HHC team the past two seasons. He was an honorable-mention pick on the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association Class 4A All-State team last season.

Ellis helped the Jeff/GRC 11-12-year-old All-Star baseball team reach the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa., in 2008.

He is a member of the Jeff boys’ basketball team, as he earned a spot on the All-HHC team during the 2012-13 campaign.

Ellis’ father, former Jeff High pitcher Derek Ellis, is the Red Devils’ baseball coach.
