H.S. SOFTBALL: Jeff softball shuts down New Washington

Floyd softball scores 19 times on 25 hits in win over North Harrison

JEFFERSONVILLE — Behind a stellar pitching performance from Emily Gray, Jeffersonville blanked New Washington 4-0 on Wednesday at Jeffersonville.

Gray turned in seven innings of shutout softball. She allowed just four hits and struck out seven, in the complete-game performance.

Gray’s counterpart Brooke Shaw tossed a nice game as well. Shaw went all six innings and struck out nine.

“[Shaw] pitched very well tonight. She hit her spots,” New Washington coach Tim Sexton said. “We hit the ball fairly well. [We] made two errors and it led to too many [Red Devil] runs.”

Jeffersonville’s offense produced the four runs on eight hits. Just three of the eight were worth extra bases and they all belonged to Emma Coons. Coons went 3-for-4 with three doubles. She also drove in a run.

“We were very good at adjusting at the plate,” Jeffersonville coach Chelsea Jordan said. “We came out today ready to play.”

New Washington will travel to Crothersville today for a Southern Athletic Conference matchup. Jeffersonville is now 2-7 and will host rival Floyd Central on Monday.
