H.S. ROUNDUP: Jasper squeezes by Jeff, 3-2

Borden tennis sweeps Clarksville

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — Jeffersonville suffered a tough loss Friday to Class 3A No. 1-ranked Jasper on an rare play to end a game.

With a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the seventh, the defending state champion Wildcats executed a suicide squeeze to squeak across the winning run, beating the Red Devils 3-2.

Jasper opened with a 2-0 after the first three innings. Jeffersonville responded with a run in the fourth to trim the lead to one and later tied Jasper in the sixth. The Red Devils were blanked in the top of the seventh and were up-ended by the squeeze in the final at-bat.

Despite the loss, Chandler Dale had another strong outing from the hill. After the early runs, Dale settled and kept Jasper within reach and leaving Jeffersonville a chance. He pitched all seven innings and scattered three runs on seven hits. He walked three and reached double-digit strikeouts with 10.

Drew Ellis was Jeffersonville’s bright spot at the plate, going 2-for-3. Nolan Fertig and Jeremiah Phelps each had an RBI.

After the loss Jeffersonville now sits at 8-5. The Red Devils hosts Clarksville on Tuesday and will enjoy homefield advantage in the midst of five of their next seven on the road.
