All high school athletic events in the News and Tribune coverage area were postponed on Friday because of the winter storm that ripped through Southern Indiana on Friday.
Of the seven boys’ basketball games on Friday’s schedule that got postponed, four of them have make-up dates.
The Borden at Lanesville and Eastern at West Washington contests have been rescheduled for Friday, Jan. 3. Jeffersonville’s season opener with Evansville Bosse at Johnson Arena has been rescheduled for Saturday, Feb. 15. Providence’s game at Austin has been moved to Tuesday.
The three postponed games with no make-up dates as of Friday are Silver Creek at Clarksville, Rock Creek at New Washington and Scottsburg at Charlestown.
The Columbus East at New Albany boys’ game, which was originally scheduled for Friday, was rescheduled last week to Saturday, Dec. 28 because of the Olympians’ football team’s participation in the Class 4A state championship game in Indianapolis.
Both girls’ basketball contests on Friday’s slate were postponed, and make-up dates have been set for each of them. The Jeff at Madison contest has been rescheduled for Thursday, Jan. 30, and the Salem at Providence game has been moved to Tuesday, Dec. 17.
Four wrestling tournaments got postponed on Friday. The tournaments were the Hoosier Hills Conference Duals at Floyd Central involving the host Highlanders, Jeff and New Albany, the New Castle Invitational involving Charlestown, the Providence six-way meet and the Robert Fugate Memorial Invitational at Scottsburg involving Eastern, New Washington and Christian Academy. The HHC duals scheduled for Saturday at Jeffersonville are also postponed.
In fact, the Providence six-way meet, which was to last through Saturday, has been postponed for the entire weekend with no make-up date set. The other three tournaments were originally scheduled to continue today.
The Hall of Fame Classic at Franklin involving the Jeffersonville boys’ and girls’ swimming teams also was postponed on Friday. The meet was originally scheduled to continue today.
As of Friday evening, only one boys' and two girls’ basketball games on Saturday have been officially postponed. They are New Albany vs. Evansville Harrison boys and Bedford North Lawrence at New Albany and Borden at Shoals girls. No make-up dates have been set for any of those games.
As for the rest of Saturday’s high school athletics’ schedule, no determination has been made if those games and meets will be postponed.
