DISTRICT 5 TOURNAMENT ROUNDUP: Hart tosses no-hitter in Jeff’s 17-0 win

NA 11-12 pitcher Krebs also throws no-no

CLARKSVILLE —  The Jeff/GRC Little League 9-10 baseball All-Stars went over the .500 mark in District 5 All-Star tournament play on Tuesday at Clarksville Little League Park.

Starter Xavier Hart pitched a no-hitter to lead Jeff/GRC to a 17-0 victory in four innings over Silver Creek. Hart struck out nine and walked two, helping Jeff to improve to 2-1 in pool play.

Hart got plenty of run support. Jeff scored five runs in both the first and second innings and seven in the third.

Jaden Hart led Jeff at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored. Teammate Cole Phillips was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs.

Jeff’s Alex Kelley, Drew Gerritsen and Ethan Fox each scored three times, while teammate Derek Lienhart had a double, a sacrifice fly and three RBIs.

For the game, Jeff went a combined 11-for-19 at the plate.

“Obviously, Xavier was outstanding on the mound,” Jeff manager Rick Kelley said. “He had perfect control of his fastball and his off-speed pitch. It was a good performance on both sides of the ball.”

Jeff will face New Albany at 8 p.m. on Saturday. Silver Creek will play Charlestown at 8 p.m. on Thursday.



• NA’s Krebs no-hits Clarksville: Hayden Krebs pitched a no-hitter of his own to help New Albany beat Clarksville in pool play on Tuesday in four innings, 10-0.

Krebs struck out six and walked none. Clarksville’s only baserunner against Krebs came in the third inning on an error.

New Albany’s Landon Deweese went 2-for-2 with a double, while teammates Cooper Biven and Drew Fifer each had two RBIs. Biven and New Albany’s Andrew Ricketts each had a home run. Other doubles for New Albany came from Carson Gentry, David Newbanks and Fifer.

Clarksville’s Mahiah Terry was the losing pitcher. New Albany (3-0) plays Charlestown at 5:30 p.m. today.
