AUTO RACING: Kimmel family earns two top-10 finishes

Will fourth at Pocono; Frank places seventh

LONG POND, Pa. — Two members of the Kimmel family from Clark County — Frank Kimmel and his nephew Will — each finished in the top 10 in the Pocono ARCA 200 on Saturday afternoon at Pocono Raceway.

Will Kimmel, a Sellersburg resident, placed fourth in the No. 69 Ford, which was provided by his family’s team, Clarksville-based Kimmel Racing. The fourth-place finish was a season-high for the younger Kimmel.

“The Messina/Ingersoll Rand Ford is gaining,” Will Kimmel told arcaracing.com. “This team has really worked hard on the car and we’re looking forward to going to Michigan [International Speedway on Friday]. I was extremely happy with the car today.”

Frank Kimmel, a Clarksville native, ended up seventh after starting the race sixth.

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series rookie Kyle Larson won the race, leading 66 of 80 laps. Mason Mitchell finished second, John Wes Townley placed third and Justin Allison was fifth.

Henryville resident Darrell Basham finished 20th. Chris Bailey Jr., driving the Kimmel Racing’s second entry, placed 29th.

Friday’s race at Michigan will be televised on Fox Sports 1.
