DISTRICT 5 TOURNAMENT ROUNDUP: New Albany lights up Charlestown

Two Jeff softball teams win on Thursday

CLARKSVILLE — In District 5 All-Star tournament action on Thursday night at Clarksville Little League Park, the New Albany 9-10 softball All-Star team sent a statement to all the other teams.

In just four innings with Charlestown, New Albany mustered up 14 runs in routing Charlestown, 14-0.

The win was an impressive one for New Albany, but New Albany coach Richard Chandler has expected those types of games all year.

“I’m very proud of the way we hit the ball tonight,” Chandler said. “Pitching and hitting will be our strong points this year. We should hit the ball well all season. We have a bunch of good hitters.”

New Albany starter Carson Chandler got the victory. Chandler pitched all four innings, allowing two hits and surrendering no walks. He struck out eight batters on his way to the shutout victory.

James Gill and Tucker Biven led the New Albany bats. Gill was 2-for-2 with two doubles. He also plated three runs while scoring two himself. Biven also had two doubles for New Albany as he went 2-for-4.
