HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: No. 6 Devils out-swim No. 4 Trinity

Rock Creek boys throttle Crothersville

JEFFERSONVILLE —  Jeffersonville defeated Trinity 110-73 in a battle of a pair of top-6 teams in their respective states.

The Indiana No. 6 Red Devils won seven of the night’s 12 events to take down the Kentucky No. 4 Shamrocks.

After a fairly close meet through most of the night, Jeffersonville put the meet away with a 1-2-3 finish by Timothy “T” Martin, Tyler Sariscsany and Zak Griffis in the 100-yard freestyle. Zach Daily, Michael Cain and Kevin Gast then went 1-2-3 in the 500 free to put more distance between themselves and the Rocks.

Evan Shive followed with his second win of the night in the 100 backstroke then the Devils closed with a win in the 400 free relay with Martin, Griffis, Sariscsany and Shive.

"I was very happy with our effort tonight,” Jeff coach Keith Gast said. “We had a meet snowed out with Columbus East this past weekend so the guys hadn't raced for two-and-a-half weeks. We really needed to get in the water and swim fast. We were pretty excited about the chance to compete with one of the best teams in Kentucky. It was a good tune up for [Saturday’s Hoosier Hills Conference] and sectional.”

Jeff is heavily favored to win its fifth straight HHC crown at Columbus East on Saturday.

Rock Creek forced 18 first half turnovers and jumped out to a 45-10 halftime lead in Wednesday’s 66-39 victory over Crothersville.

“Our intensity was outstanding in the first half,” Rock Creek coach Chris Brown said. “We were able to force the pace that we wanted and captialize on it.”

The Lions, who shot 54 percent for the contest, were led by Will Brown’s 21 points and five assists. Gedeon Nzombi added 10 points and 14 boards. Rock Creek also got nine points from Blake Joseph and eight apiece from Tanner Gerth and Ronald Karenzi.

The 9-5 Lions host Evansville Central (6-5) on Saturday.
